Vacation at the Beach
Kiawah Island South Carolina and Seabrook Island are two fantastic luxurious family beaches, both near historic Charleston South Carolina. As someone who has stayed on both islands dozens of time with my immediate and extended family, I feel I can tell other TripBop.com visitors about why they may want to visit.
For lodging, there is the fantasic 5-star hotel 'The Sanctuary'. It is ranked as the best hotel in the US by several sources and is truly one of the most luxurious beach vacations available.
For those that want more privacy and a more economical experience, you can rent villas (aka condos or townhomes) that are grouped near the west end of the island around golf courses and of course right along the beach
And my personal favorite are the hundreds of private homes that can be rented from one of several property management firms that are on the island. These firms can get you great locals deals on things in addition to your lodging too.
Things to do on the islands:
- Relax on the 10 mile beach - The beach is very wide, and not very crowded up on the East side where the private homes are. You can easily jog or ride your bike along the beach too as the sand is very hard-packed in the tidal area. It's a blast!
- Ride bikes or walk on 35 miles of trails on the island.
- Golf on 4 championship courses.
- Dine or shop at local establishments. There are the in-resort restaurants (i recommend the ocean course club house for lunch) but the locals places in Freshfields shopping area, Bohicket Marina or along Bohicket Road are much better and more reasonably priced.
- Visit Charleston which is only 20 minutes away.
